Sanatan Dharma versus Culture

What is Sanatana Dharma ? Dharma versus Culture or Tradition.

Posted on February 20, 2022May 27, 2022

Culture is the outer or physical expression of human beings.
Culture is the outer or physical expression of human beings.

Culture or tradition is the way we carry ourselves. What we think, believe, act and behave comes under the subject of Culture or tradition. For example what we eat, wear, talk, celebrate etc are termed as culture or tradition. In short outer or physical expression comes under culture or tradition.

Dharma is the spiritual background of all the right actions, it is in the intension behind actions. Attachment to material fruits leads to bondage, whereas actions without attachment to material fruits leads to Freedom and Fulfilment.
Dharma is the spiritual background of all the right actions, it is in the intension behind actions. Attachment to material fruits leads to bondage, whereas actions without attachment to material fruits leads to Freedom and Fulfilment.

Whereas how we think, believe, act and behave comes under the subject of Dharma. For example with what intension we think about things, people , place and situation comes under the subject of Dharma. Dharma is the spiritual background of all the right actions.

Different countries have different culture or tradition but the Dharma is only one which is eternal also called as “Sanatana Dharma” irrespective of geographical location.

Dharma is the path to Self-realisation, It is the path from Ego(incompleteness) to Enlightenment(Completeness) or Sat Chit Ananda.

Action or Karma done beyond selfish intension is Dharma.

Dharma is the core of one’s actions and it is in the intention of one’s actions. Dharma is the path to Freedom and Fulfilment. At primary stage Dharma is Morality which is more nearer to Physicality whereas at advance stage Dharma is Nishkaam Karma which is done from the Spiritual wisdom. Dharma originates from the absolute truth which is spiritual , it is the connecting dots from physicality to spirituality. Nishkaam Karma is the purest form of Dharma. Morality is the subset of Spirituality. Morality is the stepping stone towards the Dharma ,the advance level or the purest form is Nishkaam Karma. Any action done with selfish intension gets attached to material fruits or results which is Adharma as it leads to bondage, fear and failures whereas any action done with self-less intention is detached from material fruits or results and is termed as Nishkaam Karma also the purest form of Dharma done from the state of the highest spiritual wisdom.

Relationship between Dharma and Culture

It doesn’t matter which culture one follows, if one is on the path of Dharma, one is right and eventually attains freedom and Fulfilment by realising the eternal and boundary-less spiritual Self. And if Dharma is not followed then it doesn’t matter which culture one comes from, one is wrong and eventually attains to fear, bondage and failures.

For example:

1)Raavan and Duryodhana came from the same Hindu culture or tradition of Rama and Krishna but Raavan and Duryodhana were on the path of Adharma whereas Rama and Krishna were the epitome of Dharma.Hindu culture originates from India country besides Indus River.

2)Similarly Osama and Kasab came from the same Islam culture or tradition of Mansoor Alhalaaz and Hazrat Muhammad but Osama and Kasab were on the path of Adharma whereas Mansoor Alhalaaz and Hazrat Muhammad were on the path of Dharma. Islamic culture originates from Arab.

If Dharma is intact, one is never wrong irrespective of whatever tradition or culture one follows. And if Dharma is not followed, it doesn’t matter which culture or tradition one follows, one is never right.

Culture or tradition is the physical expression whereas Dharma is the spiritual background of all the right Actions which leads to freedom and Fulfilment.

PS: It’s not the culture that defines your character ,it’s the Intension behind your actions that defines your character and leads to Freedom and Fulfilment.
